My Love, My Broccoli Rabe

There were times when I had to travel all over the country and stay away from home for weeks at a time. I missed my friends, my family and my dogs. And my broccoli rabe!

Some places had great Italian grocery stores that stocked my deep, green flowery friend. While few and far between, I sometimes stumbled across a cool, downtown, restaurant that graced its menu with this delicious delicacy.

But it was rare, too rare for me. So I had friends Fed Ex a few bunches to wherever I was staying. A nickname was born: “Broccoli Robert.”

Talk about "farm-to-table? My broccoli rabe is picked right out of New York state’s fertile dirt. No trucks, no 3000 mile treks across the country, no produce guys handling it and no customers fiddling around the produce area at your local market.

Our farmers market friends let us pick it or bring it right to our door!

It’s pure, fresh, colorful, and ready for me to do my thing. Here's a few of my favorite recipes:

Simple Broccoli Rabe

Quick, Simple & Flavorful


    • 1 Bunch Broccoli Rabe (cut to 3-inch lengths)
    • 3-4 Cloves Garlic (sliced or chopped)
    • 4 Tbsp Arlotta Olive Oil
    • 1/2 Cup Chicken Broth
    • Salt/Pepper To Taste


Saute 3-4 (sliced or chopped) garlic cloves with our Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil for 4 minutes.
Cut one bunch of broccoli rabe into 3-inch lengths. Stir in the broccoli rabe and remove when tender and bright green.

Broccoli Rabe with Pasta & Sausage

Not as Simple: More Time, More Ingredients, More Flavor!


  • 1 Bunch Broccoli Rabe (cut into 3 inch lengths)
  • 1 Lb Pork or Chicken Sausage (cut into 1 inch lenghths)
  • 5 Tbsp Olive Oil
  • 3/4 Cup Chicken broth
  • 3/4 Lb Pasta
  • 4 cloves garlic - (sliced or chopped)
  • 4 tsp Red Pepper Flakes
  • Parmesan Cheese to taste


Sauté sausage with our organic olive oil (plain, garlic or hot pepper) olive oil until cooked through (about 12 minutes).

Add 3-4 (sliced or chopped) garlic cloves and sauté for another minute.

Stir in the broccoli rabe, red pepper flakes, and chicken broth and cook until tender and bright green

Pour 1lb of pasta over mixture, preferably short pasta (orecchiette) is my favorite).

Stir and serve. Go heavy on the ground or shaved parmesan cheese!

Johnny's Broccoli Rabe Sandwich

Simple & Delicious




  • 1/2 Bunch Broccoli Rabe (cut to 3-inch lengths)
  • 3-4 Cloves Garlic (sliced or chopped)
  • 4 Tbsp Arlotta Olive Oil
  • 1/2 Cup Chicken Broth
  • Salt/Pepper To Taste
  • half loaf of ciabatta bread
  • quarter pound of mozzarella
  • optional: substitute for red pepper or garlic olive oil


 Step 1:  preheat over to 400 degrees F. 

 Step 2: Sauté garlic cloves with our  Extra Virgin Organic Olive Oil  for 1 minute. Stir in the chicken broth, add the broccoli rabe, stir.

 Step 3: Slice bread length wise.

 Step 4: On bottom add 3-4 slices of mozzarella, and place in oven.

 Step 5: Place tops of sandwich face down in oven.

Step 6: Bake for 15 mins, take out, add broccoli rabe, slice, and enjoy!
